Shockwave therapy.
Care that makes sense.
Understand what’s going on. Explore your options. Start with a plan built around you.
Shockwave therapy may be one part of that plan. Dr. Zach Hansen starts with an assessment to understand your symptoms and movement before recommending treatment.

What is
shockwave therapy?
A handheld applicator delivers acoustic pressure pulses through the skin to a targeted area. It is a noninvasive treatment used for certain persistent tendon and soft-tissue problems.
Whether it belongs in your care depends on the diagnosis, your health history, and what you have already tried. It may be combined with exercise and other appropriate care. Results vary, and it is not a fit for every source of pain.
First, understand.
Then, make a plan.
Start with your story.
What has been bothering you? When did it start? What activities are getting harder? We want to hear what matters to you and what you have tried.
Take a closer look.
Dr. Hansen evaluates the concern and talks through his findings, including whether further evaluation or a different approach is needed.
Know the next steps.
If shockwave is appropriate, you will discuss what treatment involves and how it fits into your care. There is room for questions before moving forward.
What to expect
during treatment.
The treatment area and settings are selected for your situation. Let Dr. Hansen know how it feels throughout the session.
- Targeted application Gel is applied to the skin, and the handheld applicator is placed over the selected area.
- A pulsing or tapping sensation Treatment can be uncomfortable. Your feedback helps guide adjustments to the intensity.
- Guidance for afterward You will discuss activity, exercises, and any temporary changes that make sense for your treatment.
- A check on progress Follow-up recommendations depend on the condition and your response, rather than a promised number of visits.
A few questions,
answered.
How do I know if shockwave is right for me?
Start with an assessment. Similar symptoms can have different causes. Dr. Hansen will review your history, evaluate the concern, and explain whether shockwave or another option makes sense.
Is shockwave an electrical treatment?
No. The treatment delivers mechanical acoustic pulses, rather than an electrical current through the treatment area.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no single number that fits everyone. The recommendation depends on the condition, how long it has been present, and your response to care. You will discuss the proposed schedule and when to reassess progress.
Are there side effects or reasons to avoid it?
Temporary soreness, redness, swelling, or bruising can occur. Less common complications can include tissue injury. Suitability depends on your health history and the treatment area. Tell Dr. Hansen about pregnancy, blood-thinning medicines, bleeding disorders, recent injections or surgery, and other medical conditions before treatment.
How much does it cost? Is it covered by insurance?
Call (605) 418-5994 for current shockwave pricing and coverage questions. Coverage varies by plan and service; chiropractic benefits do not automatically mean shockwave is covered. Confirm costs before starting treatment.
